Welcome to Pacifist Chicken and Other Largely Humorous Stories of small Hopes [Blue Agave Press first paperback printing April 2006], a deft new collection of short stories, each illustrated with a comical photograph taken by the author.  Andrea Kampic hopes to show that stories about our petty hopes and deep collective unconsciousness can actually make the reader laugh without making him feel cheap, as some ‘humor’ tends to do. This compilation shows us the folly in continuing to make the same life mistakes while hoping the next time they will yield a different result; yet at the same time it makes us realize that observing others doing that very thing can be quite amusing. We humans need collections of this sort to keep reminding us to think before we act … yet act before it’s too late.

The book contains twenty-three stories with several related through-themes: Be careful what you wish for; Wake up, you’re asleep; We’re a dying species for good reason. But mostly, Question your expectations since they may be doing the driving and you’re just along for the ride.

‘I see this book as appealing to anyone who examines his life and somehow can still laugh about it. I am not counting on sales to those who do not examine nor laugh. I believe most of them don’t read anyway, hence the lack of introspection (sadly a vicious circle). My small hope is that they can still be reached by reality television.’
